Tips for planting goji seeds
Goji berries, which are the richest anti-oxidant food source, are grown in the Himalayan Mountains. You can plant your own goji berries for personal use anywhere though. All you will need is the goji seeds, soil, water, sunlight and the growing area for the plant either in outdoors or in pots. If you have a greenhouse, it would advisable to grow your goji berries outdoors.
Firstly, you need prepare the soil for planting the seeds. Goji seeds can grow in any type of soil whether medium and loamy, heavy clay, light sandy. Organic soil is considered to be the best soil for growing the seeds because the plants are very delicate in the first six months. Growing goji berries in a container is said to be best way to grow them. If you are planning to grown them in a container, you can use any type of soil that is mixed with good biological compost and worm castings. Also, check the alkaline level of the soil. Alkaline with pH level of 8.2 to 8.6 is helpful the growth of the plant.
The plants would need adequate amount of sunlight. So ensure that they are getting it right. You can also arrange suitable light facility for the plant if you are growing it indoors. The plants would need at least eight hours of direct sunlight for fast and healthy growth. Excess watering the plant can harm it and no fertilizers are required for goji seeds to flourish. If you are planting them in a container, you need to shift them outside when they reach a stage maturity after six months.
You need to have lot of patience because the goji plants do not produce berries for first two years. You need to trim the plant on regular basis to yield better results. If you have animals, try keeping them away from your plant. Keep your plant well protected.
